Who is "Nutmeg"?
Nutmeg, a.k.a. Megan Carlson, is a very versatile multimedia artist, with a passion for editing video. She is based out of Portland in the great state of Oregon. If you want to know more, read on...
Past
Megan grew up in Illinois in the 1980's and 90's, mostly in front of the TV. She discovered film editing in High School when she was asked to do a presentation on "What do you want to be when you grow up?". Past ideas for her future career - including Veterinarian, and Astronaut - fell through due to an aversion to blood and guts (discovered in 7th grade Biology class), and the realization that Math and Science are not her strong points (discovered gradually over the course of her adolescence).
When preparing for the presentation, Megan came across a box of articles, which were separated by category. Being more or less raised by her TV, she was naturally drawn to the TV & Film category. After reading an article about Film Editing, Megan exclaimed, "That sounds awesome! THAT'S what I want to do!".
For the presentation, Megan had a very ambitious idea for a video that she wanted to put together, to show what all you could do with editing. In the end, she just did this very crude, tape-to-tape bit, using clips from The X-Files. The means, the know-how, and the time for anything more than that were just not available. It still worked though. For some reason, the teacher was really impressed by the crudely edited video, and, the experience planted the seed for what's now Megan's passion. She eventually got some technology at home that allowed her to make some "Musical Montage" videos. She also started doing slide-shows. Megan just kept developing her skill with new projects every year until she finally got her butt in school in 2009.

Present
After two and a half years of hard work, Megan proudly received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Multimedia Design from Lane Community College in June of 2011. School was a wonderful experience for her, as it gave her a chance to express her creativity in a variety of projects that she probably would not have otherwise even thought of, let alone completed. Thanks to the education she received at LCC, Megan is now quite skilled in a multitude of software programs, including:
She is also comfortable with various pieces of equipment such as:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Flash
- Adobe Director
- DigiDesign ProTools LE
- Digital Performer
- and the ever important Final Cut Pro
She is also comfortable with various pieces of equipment such as:
- cameras (both still and video)
- microphones
- PMD digital audio recorders
- ARRI lighting kits
- Both Mac and Windows Operating Systems
Future
For the next couple years, Megan will be continuing her education at Portland State University, working towards a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Film. When she needs a break from school, she has a number of solo projects in the works to choose from to help keep her creative juices flowing. Ideally, she would like to partner up with some fine, creative folks - or to work with clients one-on-one - for the purpose of gaining some more professional experience, as well as maybe bringing in a little dough.
Ultimately, Megan's goal is to be the best darn video editor/sound designer/graphic designer/animator/musician/photographer she can be.
